Exotic Flowers in Roslindale and Quincy Market now have paper white bulbs and amaryllis kits. Kits retail at $9.95 each and paper white bulbs are also available in bulk. $1.25 each or 5 for $5.

Chocolate Cosmos Arrived Today

Chocolate cosmos are my wife Suzie's favorite flower. These ebony beauties will be featured in my living room and at both Exotic Flowers locations on Roslindale and Quincy Market.

Opening Day

Opening Day is one of my favorite holidays. The city is energized and hope springs eternal for all baseball fans. Boston is especially exciting.
Many Boston establishments offer all types of Opening Day specials. Lux Bond & Green, official Red Sox jeweler is giving out free sausages from 12-2pm. JP Licks ice cream is offering $1 scoops all day and Exotic Flowers is trading 10 tulips for 10 Red Sox baseball cards.

The rain has postponed today's game and we get to soak up the Opening Day Celebration again tomorrow.

Fire Someone

Many places keep laying off employees to keep costs in line. How about this ? If an average store's sales are down 15%, instead of cutting hours or wages by 15% to keep costs in line.
How about cutting the dead weight in the company. All stores and companies have dead weight, people who just punch a card. If you have 6 employees then fire 1; if you have 12 then fire 2. It will be easier than you think.
Welcome to the new economy. Just showing up is not enough. I had an employee who almost burned my store down ask for a raise two weeks later. Amazing ! Shame on me for not firing her when she screwed up. Luckily for us, she just gave us her notice. She did my job for me and this should not happen.
Perhaps the new economy will create a better employee and retail stores will benefit in the long run. This is our chance to rededine the landscape.
